Since 1997, Moore’s Hill has been growing premium grapes on a north facing slope in the Tamar Valley. Fiona Weller & Julian Allport moved from the mainland to purchase the vineyard in 2008.
The 5 ha vineyard is warmed by Tasmania’s mild summers and cooled by maritime breezes that allow our grapes to ripen slowly and evenly. The vines are hand reared and handpicked for small batch production which ensures generous wines of depth, personality and purity.
A fascination with making sparkling wine was one of winemaker, Julian Allport’s key motivations for moving to Tasmania. Our Sparkling program commenced in 2009 with our first release in 2011. It is early days but we are very pleased with the results! We make a Sparkling Blanc de blanc (100% Chardonnay) from our own vines. The result is an elegant wine of lean & fine structure, very crisp and refreshing. As we like to say: best enjoyed with oysters and good friends.
